The Sportsman Channel Awards
Orlando, Fl.
Reel Outdoors TV, and Reel Outdoors Hunting, hosted by Chris Bailey, was awarded the “Best Big Game Series” at the Sportsman Channels annual awards ceremony while attending the Shot Show in Orlando. “This is what we wanted because it was the first year that we have produced a big game series and first year productions never get recognition. I am completely surprised,” states Bailey.
Over the past three years, Reel Outdoors has been nominated 13 times in every category but hunting and won “Best Fishing and Best Videography”. “Our partners, Black Timber Outfitters (BTO) deserve a lot of recognition. They do most of the hunting filming and have won awards with other TV productions in the past,” states Chris Bailey.
Known for their monster elk, BTO is comprised of Todd Black, Travis Black, Adam Black, and Shawn Jack. They manage an outfitting business on Fair Chase Hunts in the West whereby big game hunts are filmed using everyday hunters that manage to draw a big game limited entry tag to hunt the biggest bucks and bulls in the West. Todd is a wildlife biologist and adds a segment called “Know Your Habitat.” Folks just love the fact that we film average hunters rather than privileged Celebes. We leave footage on the floor that would be the highlight of most other productions; it is that good.
“Two things interest me when I watch a fishing or hunting show; 1) I want to learn something new about our core species, trout and bass or deer and elk. 2) I watch exotic shows that cover a rarely seen fish, such as a Argentine Golden Dorado or Red Stag,” Chris Bailey goes on to say, “We hunt or fish because we love it and we feel free when we are out there, those things and humor have to be a part of all our show.”
“From time to time we invite celebrities on Reel Outdoors for one big reason; to bring public awareness and support to the outdoor way of life that has been continually harassed by animal rights activists and tree huggers.” Chris Bailey continues, “The true conservationists are hunters and fishermen, they are the ones that have put up 100% of the money to restore habitat and native species such at whitetail deer, elk, turkey, striped bass and countless others. We are very vocal about common sense conservation such as catch and release and hunting ethics.” Basketball’s greatest coach, Bobby Knight, golf’s, Johnny Miller, along with fishing legends, Roland Martin and Jack Dennis and world traveler, fishing writer, Jeff Currier appeared on Reel Outdoors in 2006.
Reel Outdoors airs nationally on the Sportsman Channel with some shows airing on Versus. The Sportsman Channel is the only network that is all hunting, all fishing, all the time. Reel Outdoors also airs on Comcast Video on Demand (VOD). “I call it the gift that keeps on giving because VOD can be watched anytime much like a DVD over a period of months, it is the perfect target for sponsors to get their point across to a chosen target.”
